Harpswell Harbor and Waterfront Committee Minutes:
MEETING MINUTES
HARBOR & WATERFRONT COMMITTEE, HARPSWELL, MAINE
July 25th,
2007
Attending
Committee Members:
Present: Burr Taylor, Steve Rowe,
Len Duda, Scott Moody, Bill Bartley
Absent: Jim Hays, Harbormaster,
Peter Darling, Bill Blood
Activities
-
Meeting called to order at 6:00
PM.
-
Agenda per Burr Taylor: Welcome
Old Business
-
Water Classification Map – The
committee agreed that the water classification map should be
updated to: include additional names for smaller areas so that
the town could have a common naming system when addressing local
concerns. The committee agreed that “Closed Harbors” should not
be designated on the water classification map but rather, held
by the town clerk per the current process. The terminology used
for segmentation on the classification map (i.e. “Anchorage”,
‘Harbor”) should be reviewed and defined in the Ordinance.
New Business
-
Discussed committee processes
and goals with visitor from Searsport H&WC to see what we could
learn from each other. Searsport has a very small number of
moorings and a significant amount of debate around the
infrastructure on and around the town dock. The challenges and
priorities of our two towns, from a waterfront perspective, are
very different.
-
Scott Moody enlightened the
committee on the challenges faced by the shellfish committee. In
particular, the closing of Quahog bay during the summer months
is a real issue for our fishing economy and it was very good for
the committee to understand these adjacent issues in our waters.
