Harpswell Harbor and Waterfront Committee
Minutes:

Minutes of June 16, 2007 Meeting
Of Harbor and Waterfront Committee

Attending

Jim Hays, Harbormaster

Committee Members:

Steve Rowe, Peter Darling, Len Duda, Burr Taylor

Absent:

Bill Blood, Bill Bartley, Scott Moody, Amy Haible

Activities:

  • Review and approve previous meetings minutes.

  • Discussion of Comprehensive Harbor Management Plan: a plan to address the issues of CCC and promote the safe use of harbors, surface waters and the underwater lands of Harpswell.

  • Our mooring survey: there are no issues with us doing it, just get it to Terri Sawyer as soon as possible.

  • Sam was unable to attend so we could do no work on the Ordinance.

  • Discussion around using a consultant for development of our HMP was delayed.

  • Harbormaster surveys:

  • Len and Pete were able to accomplish this. Len talked to Yarmouth Harbormaster and Pete talked to Phippsburg Harbormaster.

  • We were asked to review the NYS and Falmouth Harbor Management Plans. Burr questioned how we get started on this process and Steve asked how much time the committee members have to put into something on this magnitude and it was agreed that we should consider a consultant. We decided we would come up with an outline for the consultant to use as a guide and we would write it one section at a time. We then spent some time on the Inventory section and determined it was a ton of work. We would try to use contacts and town resources to facilitate collecting this data. Burr will try to list things concerning the inventory in a workable fashion for next meeting.

  • Burr talked to Dave Chipman about the TV possibilities. We would write a text and then get pictures to support the script. He asked us all to come to the next meeting with a list of our thoughts that should be included in the text.

  •  Homework for next meeting: bring your thoughts for the TV presentation text. Bring any answers for Inventory questions.

Meetings are moved to the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be June 26, Tuesday, at 6pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:16 pm.
