8/25/06 What
To Eat.
With so many choices and variety, so many competing products, and so
many confusing terms and labels, how can we know what foods are the
healthiest, freshest, most flavorful, and best value? Fortunately,
Marion Nestle -- the wisest, sanest, savviest expert on food and
nutrition today -- is here to tell us everything that anyone who
shops anywhere in America today -- whether in a Safeway or a Whole
Foods or a Walmart -- needs to know to feed themselves and their
family. In What to Eat, Nestle takes us on a guided tour of the
American supermarket and explains to us, in simple layman’s terms,
how to decide among the 40,000 products available.
With
wit, expertise, and a food lover’s delight, Nestle takes us through
the supermarket: produce, dairy, meat, fish, breads, juices, and
then to the “center aisles” where the big profits are made. Along
the way, she explains the issues:

Nutrition Facts on Popular Fast Food Restaurant Items
Are you
wondering what's in that you're eating? Whether you're counting
carbs or calories, have allergies you're watching out for, or are
simply curious, use Fast Facts to find out how many calories, grams
of fat, cholesterol, sodium, sugar, and proteins - or what allergen
factors – certain fast foods contain.
First select the restaurant you want to search for. You can search
for the nutrition facts of specific items like a Big Mac or a bean
burrito by typing the name in the "What item do you want to search
for" field. Or you can search for all items with, for example, a
maximum amount of calories or sodium such as you select. Or you can
search for fast food items that have certain allergen factors.
